AIR TRANSPORTATION

WHY? - Some of you may be wondering why the air transportation is not included. There are several reasons why it is to your advantage to book your own airline reservations…

  • First of all, there are few “deals” to be had when booking air travel for groups these days. Even when we can get a decent airfare, we are still forced to schedule everyone out of one “gateway” departure city. In this case, it would probably have to be New York-JFK or Newark. This means that you have to travel from your home city to one of these New York airports in order to rendezvous with the group for the international portion of your flight. Bummer
  • There is no “rhyme or reason” as to how airlines price their tickets today. If you book “online,” then you can sometimes get a better airfare than we can get for a group. Go figure!
  • In addition…
  1. You can choose which airline you want to use
  2. You can choose a schedule that fits your travel plans
  3. You can use Frequent Flyer points to purchase your tickets
  4. You can alter your itinerary to go a few days early or stay a few days later
  5. You can fly economy class or first/business class . . . it’s up to you
  6. You can more easily coordinate flights and seat assignments with friends.

When it comes to making your own reservations, we suggest booking with one of the online travel companies, like www.travelocity.com, www.Expedia.com, or www.ORBITZ.com. Due to the volume of business that they do with the airlines, they sometimes have special deals that can’t be found elsewhere.

All-in-all, there are definite advantages to booking your own flights. BUT, if you would like some assistance or advice, or would like for us to schedule your air for you, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help you.

Which online ticket company should I use?

We usually use our Frequent Flyer points to purchase tickets. When we don’t use points, I usually use Travelocity (www.travelocity.com). However, the deals vary from day-to-day and company-to-company so it’s wise to shop and compare.

BOOKING YOUR FLIGHTS TO ENGLAND

The following is the information that you will need to book your flights to England for our tour:

We suggest that you book your flights from your home city to London (Delta/British Airways/Virgin, etc.). However, there are some flights from other European “arrival gateways” if you prefer to use other airlines. It is up to you!

HOME CITY TO LONDON:

Departure date from Home City to Europe: Friday, May 28, 2010 (Overnight flight)
Arrival date in Europe: Saturday, May 29, 2010 (usually early morning)

LONDON TO HOME CITY:

Departure date from London to USA: Friday, June 4, 2010 (or Sunday, June 6, 2010 if staying for the extra optional weekend in London)

You must arrive at the airport between 2-3 hours prior to your flights so please schedule your return flight accordingly.

DOCUMENTATION

U.S. citizens are required to carry a valid passport for travel to Europe. For citizens of other countries, please call Once-in-A-Lifetime Travel for more specific requirements.

Homeland Security regulations require that all passengers travel in the same name as is shown on their passport. Passengers will be denied boarding if the name on the ticket and passport are not the same. If a name change has occurred (due to marriage, for instance), it is strongly suggested that you renew your passport to the correct and current name. Contact Once-in-A-Lifetime Travel for further information.

INSURANCE

You may want to consider purchasing travel medical, baggage and trip cancellation insurance. You just never know what may happen to you, a traveling companion or an immediate family member!! We use a company called TravelEx Insurance Services that offers two levels of coverage — TravelLite and Travel Plus. Rates are dependent on the total cost of the trip (air and land) and the age of the traveler.

Complete brochures are available either by hard copy or e-mail. Let us know what you prefer. In order to cover “pre-existing medical conditions”, coverage should be purchased within 21 days of your tour deposit.

RESPONSIBILITY

Once-in-A-Lifetime Travel (as agent) gives notice that all tickets and travel documents issued by them, and all arrangements made in connection with this tour, are made by them as agents, under the express condition that they shall not be held responsible or liable for any injury, loss, delay or damage caused by a vehicle, and/or negligence of staff personnel involved in providing the required services, or by any cause beyond the operator’s control.
